A Room Parent should be able to commit to assisting the teacher with various classroom and school activities throughout the school year. Just a few hours a month is needed to coordinate the various activities. A Room Parent should be organized, helpful, flexible, friendly, and responsible. Room Parents are the key to establishing and building parental involvement for the class as well as the school.
What is expected from the Lead Room Parent?
- To understand the teacher’s request and needs for the class
- To communicate these requests efficiently within a timely manner to parents
- To consider the requests of the teachers, parents, and the Room Parent Team prior to taking steps into action
- To evenly delegate and assign requests to Parent Volunteers
- To keep commitment as a Room Parent. However, if unable to fulfill this role, it is vital to let the teacher or Room Parent Coordinator know for immediate replacement.

What is expected of a Room Parent?
- To help out in the classroom as determined by the teacher
- To dedicate and focus planning for the class. This will insure that class events will be coordinated in a timely manner and that which will best suit the expectations of the teachers.
- To fulfill requests in a timely manner
- To keep confidential information private
- To get parents involved!
Basic Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all classroom parties.
- Assist the teacher with various field trips and any special programs that may require help during the year.
- Recruit volunteers for various Community Club fundraising events (ex. Book Fair, School Pictures, Family Fun Night, Walk-a-Thon, and Field Day).
- Recruit volunteers to take pictures during class events, parties, or school spirit day. These pictures are for use in scrapbooks and/or the yearbook.
